CityFactory Jerusalem
In 2023, a long-lasting relationship with the city of Jerusalem began, continuing today through various projects. In collaboration with the Jerusalem Municipality—the Department of Culture and Arts, the Social Department, and the Senior Citizens Department—The Jerusalem Foundation, and hosted by the Israel Festival, the second CityFactory opened at the New Teddy Artists’ Studios Gallery, in partnership with the Ginogli Center for Visual Art.
Just like in Bat Yam, a local community of workers was formed in Jerusalem, old toys and objects were collected, and a factory was set up to transform these items into works of art. This time, toy collection was organized by the Zaza car, traveling across all neighborhoods of the city accompanied by a unique jingle created by the band “Hadag Nahash”.
The Jerusalem factory was marked by the connection of communities that did not necessarily meet in their daily lives—from Katamon to Beit Safafa, from families with children to Bezalel students. These groups met, got to know each other, created and worked together, and collectively sustained the factory. The factory was open for two weeks, during which approximately 3,000 visitors came to witness and tour the process of workers dismantling toys and objects and transforming them into new artworks.
A week before the factory’s opening, a photography exhibition by artist Anna Maria was displayed at the Ginogli Center for Visual Art, documenting the entire process of creating and establishing CityFactory Jerusalem.
